Complementary numbers are two or more banknotes with serial numbers that are related to each other. Collectors value banknotes with identical, similar, or running serial numbers across different notes because they show a clear connection and are harder to find together. These numbers suggest continuity or a pattern, which conveys a sense of order and meaning. When paired or grouped, they stand out as intentional sets rather than random pieces, making them more appealing to keep or trade.
Running Numbers
Running numbers are two or more banknotes with serial numbers that go up one after another. For example, a 2-piece running number set could be 450871 and 450872. A 50-piece running number set might go from 680100 to 680149, and a 100-piece set could go from 720000 to 720099. These notes are often collected together because they follow a clear sequence and are harder to find as a full set once separated.
